Current Real Estate Stats
In Upper Paukukalo stand two half-destroyed heiau, Haleki'i and Pihana heiau, historical sites on state land that rise above the Hawaiian Homesteads on one side and the Iao Stream on the other. From this area you can see Na Wai 'Eha, the Four Waters, one of the largest taro-growing areas in the state in pre-contact time. It was because of the richness of this land that the Central Maui area was such a battlefield for rival chiefs.
In 1945, comedian Bob Hope entertained nearly 13,000 soldiers at a U.S.O. show at Paukukalo. That may have been the last bit of excitement the area's seen, actually. These days Paukukalo is mostly subdivisions.
